I was watching an older episode of The Daily Show when Common was a guest. I was sitting and thinking about who to cast in The Arctic Heart and I looked at him and realized he had the qualities I was going for with the character of Donald. He needed to be smug and charming, intelligent and misogynistic. Common was talking to Jon about how he had been misrepresented by someone as a hardcore rapper, but I only saw the class I needed to pull of my character. The guy's got a lot of potential.
I wasn't going to write tonight, but I decided to do a sprint. For the non-initiated, a sprint refers to writing as fast as possible to reach a word count goal within a certain amount of time. The goal was 3,000 in one hour. I did pretty well. I got to the halfway point, which was my ultimate goal. And I found, after I started, that the story interests me too much to not be excited to write.
