Picture Posts

A habit I've gotten into over the years has been to provide some picture with my posts and I realize it's maybe an interesting process.

Step One: Have an idea for a post. Let's say I was feeling kind of loopy all day and made some sort of out of body connection to the Silver Surfer and that's what I wanted to write about.

Step Two: Summarize the idea in searchable terms. Distant Mirror Traveller.

Step Three: Examine the offerings. I'm immediately struck by the pyramids and mustaches.

Step Four: Re-search with new terms. Egyptian Mustache.

Step Five: Repeat Steps Three and Four until a satisfactory image is found. You'll know you've found it because it will make sense in a way that doesn't make sense. In this case I have decided on:

Step Six: Give credit where credit is due. I'm not always very good at following this one. I try to respect people's privacy and avoid using images where the owner is obviously protective of their rights.

Step Seven: Write the post. In this case I might say, "I was sitting on the bench outside of the store today and I could feel this strange tingling start at my back. At my lower back. And then it traveled down across my skin, but only underneath me and then left, like little sparking suitcases out of my toes. It was like how I imagine the power cosmic might feel."

Step Eight: Feel satisfied with your life and go for some pie and a foamy drink.

Very often the selection of the picture is what consumes the most time in my process of posting. Like now. This post has no substantial content, but because it contains pictures, it has taken me all night to complete. And I am easily distracted, so that doesn't help.
