So long

I've had a lot of furniture changes lately. I mean, the biggest would be when I first moved into my apartment. I was going through it with someone not long ago and I pointed out all the furniture I'd had when I moved in. Let's see ... there was my small table and chairs, the "nightstand", and ... the dvd holder that I use as a small, skinny set of bookshelves. And my comic book rack, if that counts.

After a bit I started acquiring things, very slowly at first. First were the things from my family. A couple sets of shelves, an end table, a train table, and a crib. Then a cheap end table from someone who needed help moving some things from a storage locker they could no longer afford. Then I bought a couple of red recliners. So, at that point my living room was a large train table littered with train parts, and two red recliners with end tables on either side. That bare apartment was pretty depressing.

The recliners were a part of the transition phase, I'll call it. In that phase I did have a bed, a twin, and a kitchen table, which I got for cheap. Things started to come together. I started to really hit it hard when Christmas was coming.

I decorated to the hilt. Hell, I use the past tense, but I still have it all up. I wanted to create this wonderland for Joseph. Something he could really enjoy. So when I (kind of) had the money, I stalked Craigslist and poured through every thrift and antique shop I could find. In the end, with a grand total that is quite low considering what I've accomplished, I have a kitchen table and chairs, a couch, loveseat and arm chair, rug for the living room, big-ass coffee table, large television and -- okay, wait, I want to say how well I did, too. The TV, this big thing, was free. Perfect television, and free. My living room doesn't look secondhand, at least not just looking casually, because I got good stuff, cheap, and it all goes together.

I have an adult bedroom, it's crazy. Full-sized bed, dresser, toys. Joseph's room is good, but needs to be fixed, which I plan on doing. The boy's got too much stuff and he needs a "big boy" bed. A craftmatic adjustable, y'know?

Oh, and when I say I "decorated" I'm mistaken; I furnished the apartment. Decorating is the next step. I want to make it look good when Christmas finally comes down after my birthday.

Oh, and this nice kitchen table? $10. Boom. The chairs were cheap, too, but unfortunately it shows. These will be replaced soon.

My little table and chairs were finally bought off of ebay. It was a little sad to see them go. I could tell you stories about stuff that happened on or around that table. But now I have room for Joseph to have his own kitchen in my kitchen, and that's really what's important: teaching children that it's okay to play with knives and stoves.*

*Just kidding.
