The Arctic Heart - Revisions
Last month I finished my novel The Arctic Heart. But just because I met my word goal as a part of some contest, that doesn't mean I'm finished finished. It's time to start revising.
I'm thinking of six steps:
1. Revise to eliminate inconsistencies and expand. If I got tired, I didn't bother with much detail and if I decided to change something, I just did. The web of intricacies is good, but it could be tighter and more elaborate.
2. Research. There's a lot of things I'm writing about that I don't know. Hopefully, I won't have to change much for accuracy.
3. Revise again. Now that all the pieces are in place, it's time to solidify the connections.
4. Keep revising. I know from previous writing that there's a lot of refining that comes with creating a good piece of fiction.
5. Criticism. Gotta get an outside perspective.
6. Revise. I'm fairly sure this is an endless process. Revise, revise, revise.
And there'll be some overlap in there. Like I can start doing research while I'm revising for the first time. And I could let someone read a few chapters while working on others. It will be very fluid.
Can a river run uphill? Expect to see posts about the revision process as I move along. Very dry, boring posts. "I wrote this much, had a sandwich, petted my cat, watched Community, fell asleep and thought about more revisions. Drool."
